Loreto girls do Munster hockey proud.

Loreto hockey players took advantage of the local venue for the hockey inter provincials this year. They travelled to Garryduff in Cork on Fri 18th October to support two of their fellow Loreto students who were representing Munster at U16 level. They were also involved as ball girls and score board operators in some of the Friday.

The afternoon began by watching Munster U18s defeat South East,as 4 students kept the score board up to date. Then Loreto girls were busy on the U16 and U18 pitches as ball girls for the Ulster V South East and Connaught V Leinster games.

5pm saw the whole group gather to cheer on Loreto third year students Niamh Sexton as right back and mid fielder, and Kathryn Buckley as  goalie for the Munster U16s. An exciting game, where Munster dominated completely but couldn’t seem to convert all the possession into goals on the scoreboard.Kathryn didn’t see alot of action but true to form was more than capable on the few occasions the ball came her way.She kept a clean sheet, in fact only allowing one goal past her in the whole tournament which continued over Saturday and Sunday as well. Niamh Sexton put in a solid performance throughout as well, making a calculated pass into the circle in the second half which resulted in Munster’s winning goal of the the game.
