Principal’s Welcome
“Work with great tranquility, joy and magnanimity, for what is not done in one year can be done in another” – Mary Ward

I would like to welcome everyone to our school’s website and I hope that it will provide a window to the energy, dynamism and vibrancy of our unique school community.
Loreto Secondary School has a long and proud tradition serving the community of Fermoy and its environs since 1853. Ours is a school that offers an excellent learning environment for all our students, an environment that is further enhanced by our healthy and active extra-curricular programme.
Our vision for the education of our students is to empower every girl to take ownership of her own learning. Our teachers are highly trained, work hard and have high expectations. It is an honour for me to work among them. We pride ourselves on providing a quality education in a safe, caring and happy environment where students can flourish and achieve their full potential in keeping with our mission statement, “To encourage high standards while at the same time affirming and appreciating diversity of gifts and goals”.
Our school educates girls of all abilities to the highest standard across a range of subject disciplines and additional areas of learning. We mean to do this by setting high standards, recognising success and rewarding contribution. Each year, students from Loreto Fermoy excel in state exams both at Junior and Leaving Cert and we continue to be one of the top non fee-paying schools in Cork City and County for progression to third level institutions.
As you browse through our webpage you will read the wonderful stories of our achievements in sport and the arts. Our students have achieved successes in the areas of camogie, gaelic football, basketball, soccer and hockey. We are all-Ireland champions in camogie. The school choir has represented Loreto both in Ireland, the UK and further afield. We are a European Ambassador school. Our girls have represented Ireland internationally in sailing, rowing, martial arts and equestrian events.
We are very proud of our students.
Our students are actively encouraged to participate in leadership roles. We have an active student council, senior prefects, student mentor programme and various student teams. These leadership teams support the staff in harnessing the dynamism of the school community as well as the many gifts and talents of our students and prepare our students for leadership roles in the future. Here at Loreto we celebrate all achievements with our girls. Certainly, Mary Ward’s vision that “Women in time to come will do much” is a reality here in Fermoy.
Parental involvement is an essential and appreciated part of our school. Parents are represented on the Board of Management and we have a vibrant Parent Association. We work in partnership with our parents to fulfil the educational expectations of the school community.
Whether you are a member of our school community or simply ‘dropping by’ on our website we hope you enjoy the experience of getting to know our school a little better.
